Headlands Architects (Headlands) is a full service residential design firm focusing on architecture and interior design. Founded by architect Stephen Seldin, Headlands is known for its warm modern design, use of natural materials and celebration of California’s indoor/outdoor living.
We work with clients across Northern California to complete custom remodels, additions and ground-up projects. Headlands believes in bringing thoughtful design to even the smallest projects. Our close relationships with builders and craftspeople, enable a collaborative and smooth process start to finish. The Headlands name is a nod to the Marin Headlands, an iconic part of the California coastline. Headlands Architects is based in Petaluma, California.
Stephen Seldin is an architect with over a decade of high-end residential experience at firms in San Francisco and New York City. Amongst projects on both coasts, his work has encompassed a 367 sq. ft. Manhattan apartment, and a 10,000 sq. ft. estate in the Napa Valley. Stephen is a graduate of The Cooper Union School of Architecture in New York, where he was awarded the Peter W. Bruder Memorial Prize for Excellence in Structures.
Stephen’s background marries a passion for schematic design with deep technical and construction expertise, creating meaningful design choices throughout each project. Having grown up in California, his design ethos is informed by California modernism, sustainable building, and intentional material choices. When he’s not working on his next project, you can find Stephen cycling, hiking, or trying a local cider. Stephen is a registered architect, licensed in the state of California.
